Governments commonly recommend that states closely examine and adopt standards, policies and procedures enacted by nationally respected groups like NIST in order to jump start their cybersecurity planning.
The Obama administration unveiled several proposals to enhance cyber security. In May 2011, it presented a proposal that seeks to knit together a “security infrastructure” to encompass the public and private sectors, with actions proposed at the state, federal, and international levels.
